instead of listing the individual songs this page focuses on how we approach
each genre of music. we have summaries and quick sample lists available for several of
the most popular types of music.  feel free to look around and get an
idea of the true passion our dj's have for the different styles.

50's

this portion of the library is dedicated to the songs that have remained popular over time. 
the best doo-wop rockers & ballads we could find.  songs like:

60's

this portion of the library covers motown hits, psychedelic rockers,
and surf songs.  some of the artists include:

80's

this portion of the library focuses on songs that instantly make you think of the 80's. 
new wave bands, radio hits, one-hit wonders, and more are all included.  this category
is particularly deep at soundworks, there are many more songs than we can list -
but here are a few of our favorites:

ALTERNATIVE / TECHNO

this category is music is extremely wide at soundworks.  it is made up of 80's alternative
bands, modern rock, some electronica, punk, 90's swing, and techno. 
a lot of unique bands who don't quite fit into other music categories are included here.

BIG BAND

original, traditional swing and ballads by original artists.  almost everything
in this category can be considered a classic.  these are some of the artists we feature:

CHRISTMAS

we are proud of our vast selection of contemporary and traditional christmas music. 
while including some new artist's interpretations, we have concentrated on the
songs and artists that have become classics.

when planning your holiday party, be sure to ask us about any specialty music to play
during any corporate games you have in mind.

CLASSIC ROCK (70'S)

you know what classic rock is. and we have a lot of it.  like:

CLASSICAL

we are proud of our classical selections, and believe people who are serious
about music will appreciate them as well.  these songs represent what is
truly beautiful in music.  the emotions in these songs will never grow old. 
some of the artists include:

COUNTRY

we have a wide selection of today's top country hits - some great ballads,
line dances, and 2-steps.  if you are interested in more traditional country music,
we'll work with you to please all your guests.  some of the artists include:

DANCE / HIP-HOP

this is probably the deepest music category at soundworks, and it is always growing. 
we take advantage of a variety of dj-only remix subscription services to stay current
with all the new hits.  since we've been current for over 15 years, we have a
tremendous amount of dance music.  there is way too much music to list now, but
here's about 50 songs to give you a taste of the soundworks hip-hop flavor:

DANCE / POP

this is our version of the top 40 dance category.  these songs do not have quite the edge
as those in the dance / hip-hop section.  they appeal to a broad audience and most were
smash hits that are standards at most dance clubs.  this category contains a
variety of styles.  here are some of the favorites:

DISCO

disco was popular for a reason - these songs are great!!!  here are the classic
songs that still make people want to dance.  we have a wide selection of
authentic disco music from the 70's.  here are just a few:

EASY LISTENING

this section features the singer/songwriter.  almost everyone in this category
is a modern icon.  this music is perfect for background music while eating. 
 who says the music has to be boring when the volume is turned down? 
some of our featured artists include:

FUNK

funk. Funk! FUNK!!!!!!   these songs were the bomb 20 years ago and continue to be
sampled and re-made into the hits of today.  this music is not for the faint of heart.
playing songs like these will make you want to par-tay!

GANGSTA

yes, there is a difference.  these artists represent the harder side of life
and are usually not appropriate for all audiences.  however, there is a
lot of significant music in this category that should not be overlooked. 
some of the artists include:

HEAVY METAL

remember when rock songs used to ROCK? remember when people
knew how to play guitar?  we do too.  here are some of those artists that
 should bring back some good memories:

JAZZ / BLUES

one of the best things about running soundworks is our exposure to many kinds
of music.  by being in business for as long as we have, and keeping
an ear out for good music, our jazz selections have really filled out. 
these artists have done some tremendous work, and we are proud to offer the highest
 quality of jazz music.  here are some of the library's very best:

LIGHT ROCK

this is some really good rock and roll.  not too hard, and a lot of musicianship
involved.  here are some of the best bands in rock:

NEW EDITION

together and as individual acts, these band members have done enough
to deserve their own category.  these artists shaped the rhythm & blues industry
in the early nineties.  this category is full of great songs, like:

PRINCE

we've included a few of the other bands that made up the minneapolis sound
of the early eighties, but the vast majority of this category is all prince. 
he has written more songs than anybody else we know
(314 that we have so far) and shows no sign of slowing down. 
here are some of the best known prince songs:

RAP (OLD SCHOOL)

this is a pretty complete selection of old school rap artists.  some of these artists
have continued writing hip-hop music, but back when this rap thing was still new,
these were the songs that got it started.
